Shirley Mae Fillipi, age 67, of Grand Forks, North Dakota, passed away Friday, November 30, 2007, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis of heart surgery complications. Shirley was born May 19, 1940, in Oslo, Minnesota, the daughter of Johannes and Amy (Johnson) Hedlund. She married Gordon Fillipi on February 27, 1960, in Tabor, Minnesota. Shirley attended Bemidji State University and earned a B.A. in Home Economics from UND. She worked at South Junior High as a secretary, at King News bookstore as a bookkeeper, and later in the Grand Forks Public School system as a paraprofessional. Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Gordon of Grand Forks; children, Greg (Bita) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Steve (Shelly) of Aurora, Colorado, Tom (Patty) of Farmington, Minnesota, Jim (Lori) of Bemidji, Minnesota, Suzanne (Brad) Berry of Winnipeg, Manitoba; nine grandchildren, Nicole, Preston, Ashley, Austin, Sydney, Chase, Brianna, Brooke, Bauer, and future grandson; and one great-granddaughter. Also survived by sisters, Marion (Art) Yanish, Joyce Hedlund, Rose (Bruce) Duray; brother, Marvin (Lynnett) Hedlund, and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
