Theodore Camrud

November 15, 1931 — June 18, 2008

Theodore (Ted) M. Camrud, age 76, died at home on Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Ted was born November 15, 1931, in Grand Forks, ND. He was the youngest son of Richard and Malina Camrud and grew up in Buxton, ND where he completed high school. He attended one year of college at Mayville, ND then enlisted in the United States army and served two years in the medical corps in Japan during the Korean War. Ted was a natural athlete and excelled in all athletics especially basketball, football, and baseball; he was on the UND football team from 1955-1957. Ted married Madelyn Roeder on November 10, 1956, while in law school at UND. He graduated in 1959 and practiced law for 42 years. His first job was in Miles City, MT as a landman for Standard Oil of New Jersey. He and his family then moved to Carson, ND, where he practiced law with Ken Peterson, States Attorney; later he worked in Bismarck, ND for the ND Supreme Court. In 1961 he moved back to Grand Forks to practice law. In 1964 he joined the Degnan Law Firm which is now known as Camrud, Olson, Maddock and Larson, LLP. He retired in 2002. Ted said the highpoint of his career was "practicing law every day." Members of the firm acknowledge his leadership skills and mentoring to younger members of the firm. Ted was president of the Grand Forks County Bar in 1984, and was involved in leadership positions of numerous Grand Forks organizations. He was a man of character who understood commitment. He was a devoted family man and will be forever missed and remembered by his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Madelyn: sons Kent (Yvonne) of Apple Valley, MN, Chad (Connie) of Grand Forks, ND, daughters Jodi of Grand Forks, ND, and Jill (Randy) of Hungry Horse, MT; brothers Ray (Natalie), of Rochester, MN and Richard (Caroline) of Fargo, ND, sisters Corinne Eliason and Carol Kloster both of Grand Forks, ND, and sister-in-law Lil Camrud, Big Lake, MN; grandchildren Gunner Cunningham, Roeder Camrud, Luke Smith, Halo Camrud, and Trigg Camrud and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Richard and Malina, and brothers Idan (Marcella) and Omar.
