Verna Slominski

Verna C. Slominski, 80, Grand Forks, passed away peacefully at Altru Hospital, Thursday, Februrary 7, 2008, surrounded by her family. Veronica Catherine Lunski was born on September 28, 1927, the daughter of Alex and Julia (Pokrzywinski) Lunski. She was raised on the family farm near Ardoch, and was confirmed in June, 1940. Verna was united in marriage to Aloysius Slominski on October 29, 1946 at Ardoch church by Father Frances Slominski. They made their home in Grand Forks. Verna worked at Eddy's and Charlies's Bakeries after which she retired to stay home and take care of her husband who died in February, 1995. Verna continued to live in her home until 2005 when she moved to Valley Eldercare where she lived until the time of her death. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, to which she had a strong faith in her Lord. Verna had a love for her grandchildren, who will miss her greatly. Her favorite activities included those at Valley Eldercare which she always looked forward to, her canaries she raised at home, and also loved growing her flowers, which she had a green thumb for. She enjoyed visits to the farm and just to see the countryside. Verna is survived by her daughter, Judy Slominski, Grand Forks; sons, Richard (Carol) Slominski, Grand Forks, Raphael (Nan) Slominski, Manvel, ND; daughter-in-law, Peggy Slominski, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Stacey, Kristi, Rick Slominski, Shannon Thomas, Cheri Slominski, Ann Fontaine, Kate, Kirsten, Lindsay Slominski; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ida Byzewski, Grand Forks, Joyce (Lloyd) Hagen, Grand Forks, Alice (Dan) Seitz, Genesco, IL, Delores (Ray) Korynta, East Grand Forks, MN; brothers, Clarion (Dorothy) Lunski, Grand Forks, Hilary (Joann) Lunski, Grand Forks, Raymond (Gayle) Lunski, Sioux Falls, SD; sisters-in-law, Clementine Lunski, Mayville, ND, Mary Lou Lunski, Grand Forks. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Raymond, sister Loretta, brothers, Frank, Joseph, John, David, Florian, and Stephen. The family would like to thank the staff at Valley Eldercare for their wonderful care. Mass of Christian Burial: will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2008 in St. Michael's Catholic Church, 520 N. 5th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and for one hour prior to the mass in church. Interment: Will be in Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks in the spring. Memorials: are preferred to St. Michael's Catholic Church Bridge Builders, or Valley Eldercare activities.
