William "Bill" Herald Hagen, 71, of Grand Forks, died June 19, 2008, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, after a long illness. Bill was a devoted husband to Frances and loving father to his son Bill. Bill was born in Plentywood, MT, on June 4, 1937. He graduated from Williston High School, then attended NDSU. He also attended the Lynch Flying School in Billings, MT. Bill was a farmer and crop duster pilot in Plentywood. In 1968, Bill joined the Border Patrol. He truly loved his job for the next 27 years. His career included San Diego, CA; Detroit, MI; Portal, ND, and Browing & Shelby, MT. After retirement he lived in Grand Forks with his son and wife until his death. Bill loved hunting in Montana, camping in Glacier National Park, and loved history. He enjoyed afternoon coffee sessions with friends and family. When living in Shelby, he was also a great gardener. Bill is survived by his wife Frances; son, Dr. William Hagen of Grand Forks; brother, Dr. Nick (Mary Lou) Hagen of Mesa, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, June & William Hagen; sister, Donna Thayer of Scottsdale, AZ. FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2008, at University Lutheran Church 2122 University Ave. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: 4:00-6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service, Sunday, June 22, at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. in Grand Forks. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the funeral service at the church. INTERMENT: Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
