Stanley Svaren

Stanley Svaren, 82, formerly of Niagara, North Dakota, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 in Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center, Grand Forks. Stanley was born in Grand Forks on June 15, 1926 to Erling and Lillie (Ackerson) Svaren of Niagara, North Dakota. Stanley attended school at Niagara, graduating in 1944. He became a telegrapher for the Great Northern Railroad and later an agent for the Soo Line until his retirement. He was a lifelong member of Elk Valley Lutheran Church at rural McCanna, North Dakota, and lived at Niagara until moving to Grand Forks in 2000. A man of many interests, he enjoyed outdoorsman sports like hunting and fishing, but also did woodworking, stamp collecting, and was an avid reader. Stanley is survived by sisters, Evelyn Lanes of Grand Forks, and Doris Johnson of Grafton; brother-in-law, Calvin Veitch; sister-in-law, Muriel Svaren; and numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold; and a sister, Gene Veitch. Memorial Services: a Celebration of Life Service will be held 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2008 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 South 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be from 4 to 5 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorials: are preferred to Elk Valley Lutheran Church, rural McCanna, North Dakota.
