Barbara A. Evenson, 73, Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Thursday, September 4, 2008 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Barbara Ann Nelson was born in Grand Forks on August 3, 1935 to Einar Rudolf and Ragna Amanda (Opheim) Nelson. She attended school in Grand Forks, graduating from Grand Forks Central High School in 1953. Barbara Nelson and Robert M. Evenson were united in marriage on April 3, 1954 in Grand Forks. She was employed by the University of North Dakota School of Medicine for 19 years. Barbara was an member of United Lutheran Church, singing many years in the United Lutheran Cathedral Choir, the YMCA (water aerobics), Central High School Class of 1953 Alumni, and above all she enjoyed events with her family. She is survived by her children, Susan (Clayton) Johnson, Grand Forks, Charlene Ekeland, Twin Valley, MN, Sherrie Evenson, Portland, OR, Bradley (Pamela) Evenson, Arvilla, ND, and Vickie Evenson Gonzales, Grand Forks; 20 grandchildren, 8 great grand-children; a brother, David (Jane) Nelson, Lansdowne, PA; a sister, Thale (John) Skarohlid, Cheyenne, WY; and sister-in-law, Mardelle Nelson, Dickinson, ND. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Alvin, Robert and James, a son, James, and a grandson, Brian. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks. Visitation: 4 to 6 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. Prayer Service Sunday, September 7, 2008 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
