Ben J. Lizakowski

Ben (Benedict) Joseph Lizakowski, age 74, of Grand Forks, ND passed away on Sunday, Sept. 21st, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Ben had battled lung cancer since Dec. 2005. Ben was born June 19th, 1934 in Warsaw, ND; the son of Sarah Lizakowski and Amos Yell. He married Janis Knutson on November 28th, 1959. They were married in Grand Forks at Augustana Lutheran Church. Ben was employed by Minnkota Power Coop. as a truck driver and utility painter for 30 years. He retired in 1991. Ben enjoyed raising many different kinds of animals on his hobby farm. They ranged from buffalo, emu, and peacocks to ducks, chickens, guinea hens and his favorite - pigeons. He raised all types of pigeons - Rollers, Tumblers and Racing Homers. Ben enjoyed attending swap meets, racing and pigeon shows. On the weekends, Ben could be found at the Speedway races with family and friends. Ben is survived and loved by his family. Janis, wife of 49 years; Six children - Diane(Keith) Peace, Acworth, Georgia; Bob Lizakowski, Grand Forks, ND; Jay(Lisa) Lizakowski, Warren, MN; Bill(Sharon) Lizakowski, Cottage Grove,MN; Jan(John) Monley, Grand Rapids, MN; and Bonnie(Ross) Georgeson, Larimore, ND. Twelve Grandchildren - Jason, Ailisha, Tiffany, Janafer, Jessica, Elizabeth, Chelsey, Ben, Brittany, Cassidy, Renee and Jayce. Brother, Walter Lizakowski, Mayville, ND and thirteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, brothers Peter and John and sister Mary Ann. At the end of the service, Ben's Racing Homers will be flown. FUNERAL SERVICES: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2008, at Trinity Free Lutheran Church 3426 Chestnut St. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, Wednesday evening, at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND.
