Richard D. Hoffart, 69, passed away after a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, at 4000 Valley Square Woodside Village in Grand Forks. Richard Duane Hoffart was born on January 29, 1939, in Knox, ND, the son of Anton & Theresa (Klein) Hoffart. Richard grew up in Crary, ND, and graduated from Crary High School. Richard enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served from October 1958, until November 1962. Richard married Nadene Schupp on April 4, 1967, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Grand Forks. Richard worked for the Grand Forks Air Force Base for 33 years. In his retirement he worked for the Grand Forks Public Schools and Sam's Club. Richard has been a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church since 1979. He was also a loyal member of the East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157. He enjoyed watching boxing at the Legion, reading books and playing cards. Richard is survived by his wife, Nadene; sons, Duane Hoffart of Grand Forks, Brian (Tina) Hoffart of Grand Forks, Chad Hoffart of Grand Forks; daughter, Theresa Hoffart of Grand Forks; brothers, Leo (Doris) Hoffart of Devils Lake, Jerome (Mary) Hoffart of Devils Lake, Dennis (Marion) Hoffart of Grand Forks; sisters, Eleanor (Kenneth) Sime of Bowman, ND, Sally Olson of Devils Lake, Dolores Hoffart of Devils Lake; sister-in-law, Mary Hoffart of Devils Lake; grandchildren, Isaac and Breanna, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leonard; sister, Irene Wilhelmi, and brother-in-laws, Fritz Wilhelmi and Harold Olson. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2008, at St. Mary's Catholic Church 216 Belmont Rd. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: Sunday, September 28, from 5:00-7:00 pm with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. in Grand Forks, and also for the hour prior to the Funeral Mass at the church. INTERMENT: Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND MILITARY HONORS: East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157 & East Grand Forks Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 3817, & N.D. National Guard.
