Carl N. Olson, 88, Grand Forks, passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Carl Norman Olson, the son of Lorentz and Ragnhild (Skari) Olson, was born in the Stanley, North Dakota area on December 14, 1919. He attended school in Canada, eventually moving back to Thompson, North Dakota. He served in the US Army during World War II in the Marshall Islands and Hawaii. Upon his return home from the war, he married Bernice Larson. Carl began working for Armor Meat Company in the early 1950's, and retired after 30 years with the company. Carl and Bernice traveled in their retirement, spending winters in Texas with friends. He enjoyed fishing, especially a trip to Alaska for Scott's wedding and an opportunity to go Halibut and Salmon fishing. Carl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Bernice; daughter, Linda (Michael) Quamme; son, Brian Olson, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren, Scott (Diana) McLean, Shannon McLean, and Shelby McLean; great-grandchildren, Cody, Brooks, and Skyler McLean; step-granddaughter, Denali Peterson; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a brother Ernest; and sisters, Lillian and Helga. Services: 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2008 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be for the hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: will be in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
