Raymond L. Syrstad, 79, Pelican Rapids, MN and formerly of Grand Forks, ND died Monday, November 17, 2008 in MeritCare Hospital of Fargo, ND. Raymond Lowell Syrstad was born February 2, 1929 in Oslo, MN the son of Albert and Tena (Farder) Syrstad. He was raised and educated in the Grand Forks area and began working as a farm hand at a young age. He lived and worked in St. Paul, MN and East Grand Forks, MN. Raymond served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. In 1957 he returned to East Grand Forks. He married Doris Habben on April 27, 1957 in East Grand Forks. They lived in East Grand Forks, MN and later in Grand Forks, ND were Raymond worked first as a equipment operator and later as an electrician for Thrall and Tupa which later became Comeau Electric. He retired in 1990. Doris Syrstad died January 1, 2004. Raymond was a member of the IBEW Local 1426 Union. He enjoyed fishing, camping and especially handyman work and tinkering. Survivors include his daughters, Deborah (Kevin) Przybycien, Amery, WI, Jennifer (Scott) Engen, Hastings, MN and Rebecca Frazier, Pelican Rapids, MN; son, Raymond T. (Jackie) Syrstad, Caledonia, WI; grandchildren, Nicholas, Curtis, Casey, Kayla, Chelsea, Kalob, Reed, Anders, Max and Kathleen Doris; great grandchildren, Branden and Bella; sisters, Minerva (Chuck) Wurr, San Diego, CA and Delores (BJ) Martin, Chula Vista, CA; brothers, Omar (Laverne) Syrstad, East Grand Forks, MN, Allen Syrstad, Grand Forks, and Morris Syrstad, St. Paul, MN; Sister -in- Law Lenore (Lester) Sandusky, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; by brothers, Lester and Ovie; sisters in law, Carol Habben, Alice Syrstad and Lorraine Syrstad and by a son-in-law, Wayne Frazier.
