Dennis Richard Hutchings, 64, Grand Forks, ND, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at his home. Dennis was born January 9, 1944 in Leader Saskatchewan to Fred and Irene Hutchings. He grew up in rural Canada and later moved to the United States. He joined the U. S Army and was stationed at Ft. Polk Louisiana. He met his wife, Marlene (Hrdlicka) by correspondence and they were married on December 31, 1966 in St. Paul, MN. They had their first child in Louisiana and then moved to Grand Forks in 1968. They had two more children in Grand Forks. Dennis worked for Northwest Airlines for forty years. Dennis had many hobbies. He loved to watch sports and play them as well. He played hockey from his youth and later played with the Grand Forks Old Timers League. He also participated in bowling leagues. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and always looked forward to spending time with his family at the lake each summer. If he wasn't doing any of these things or taking a road trip, you would find him in the garden or planting flowers around the house. Dennis is survived by his wife, Marlene; his children, Christine (Tom) Chapdelaine of St. Paul, MN, Kenneth of Mandan, ND and Allison (Kris) Peterson of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica and Samantha; a sister, Brenda (Brian) Varga; nieces, Bobbie Jo (Stacy) Fritz and Dakota Varga; nephew, Dustin (Jolene) Varga; all of Medicine Hat, Alberta; an aunt, Lois Nagel, Leader, Saskachewan, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother and his parents.
