Gladys I. Brokke

Gladys I. Brokke, 85, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2009, at Valley Eldercare Center in Grand Forks. Gladys was born on January 30, 1923, in Bowman, ND, the daughter of Daniel & Elizabeth "Bessie" McNally. Her family moved to Grand Forks when she was 8 years old. Gladys married Norman Brokke on October 13, 1959, in Crookston, MN. She worked as a cook for several places in Grand Forks over the years. Gladys taught Norman how to Polka dance. Gladys and Norman loved traveling to different towns following Polka bands and attending the dances. Gladys spent her last few years at Valley Eldercare Center where she was loved by the staff. They will miss her giggle. The family greatly appreciates the loving care they have provided over the years. Gladys enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She was a member of the East Grand Forks VFW #3817 and American Legion #157 Women's Auxiliaries. She is survived by her husband Norman; sons, David Brokke of Grand Forks, Ray (Cathy) Kotta of Perham, MN; daughter, Janice (Donald) Ellis of Cass Lake, MN; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and a brother, Ray Wilcox, Seattle, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Daniel Kotta; brother Danny; sisters, Jean & Margaret. FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. VISITATION: One hour before the service at Amundson Funeral Home. INTERMENT: Spring 2009, East Walle Cemetery, Thompson, ND.
