Calvin Chub Veitch

Calvin Earl "Chub" Veitch, 82, Emerado, ND died Sunday, January 11, 2009 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Calvin was born February 27, 1926 in Northwood, ND the son of Stanley and Pearl (Brandt) Veitch. He was raised and educated in Emerado, ND and graduated from high school there. Calvin married Luella "Gene" Svaren in 1948. He farmed at Emerado from 1944 to 1990 and also worked for Sand Steel Construction for a time. Calvin was a lifelong member of the Emerado Presbyterian Church. He was known by many for raising pumpkins and bringing them to the first grade class of the Emerado School. Calvin was an avid fisherman who also enjoyed hunting, sports, and gardening. Survivors include his daughters, Joanne Bergstedt, Grand Forks, Peggy (Ted Martinez) Flaagan, Greeley, CO; son, David (Cindy) Veitch, Emerado, ND; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, James Veitch, Grand Forks. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gene in 2002; his parents; brother, Elmer; sisters, Helen and Gladys. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials be directed to the Emerado Presbyterian Church.
