Kermitt Quanrud

Kermitt R. "Bobby" Quanrud, 86, Grand Forks and formerly of Mekinock, ND died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Kermitt Robert Quanrud was born February 1, 1922 in Mekinock, ND the son of Oscar and Randine (Stastad) Quanrud. He was raised and educated in Mekinock. Prior to WWII he was employed as a welder in the shipyards in Seattle, WA. He served with the U.S. Army in the Philippines during WWII. After the war, he returned to Mekinock. Bobby married Evenelle Dorsher on April 6, 1947 in Grand Forks. He purchased the original family farm at Mekinock and worked as a lifelong farmer in the area. He was also a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. He worked at the Grand Forks Air Force Base, on missile sites and numerous other construction projects. He retired from farming in 1996. Evenelle Quanrud died January 13, 2006. Survivors include sons, Steve (Suzy) Quanrud, Grand Forks, Ken (Jennie) Quanrud, Emerado, ND and Robert (Patti) Quanrud, Fall Creek, WI; daughter, Helen Potier, Sturgeon Bay, WI; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brothers, Truman (Doris), Torrance, CA, Larry (Carol "Duey"), Shakopee, MN and Allen (Vernetta), Elk River, MN; sisters, Pearl Berge, Grand Forks, Gloria (Jim) Wright, Duluth, MN, Darlene McGowan, Bemidji, MN and Gail Bryan, Battle Lake, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Paul Quanrud and a brother Harris. Memorials are preferred to Altru Hospice or the Scleroderma Foundation.
