Halvor "Howe" Sannes, 90, Grand Forks, ND died Sunday, February 8, 2009 in Valley Memorial Home Woodside Village. Halvor was born April 22, 1918 near Thompson, ND the son of Salve and Tarjar Sannes. He was raised and educated at Thompson. At a young age, he moved to Bygland, MN and worked for area farmers. He served in the US Army during WWII in both France and Germany. After the war, he returned to Bygland, MN. Halvor lived and worked in California for a brief time. He married Thordis Brokke on April 27, 1957 in Sacramento, CA. They moved to Grand Forks, ND where Halvor was employed for the city of Grand Forks until his retirement in 1983. Halvor loved his riding lawn mower and working in his yard. He also enjoyed spending time at area lakes and playing BINGO. Survivors include his sons, Steve (Jackie) Sannes, Grand Forks, Scott (Amy) Sannes, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Megan, Fargo, ND, Hayley, Fargo, ND and Toby, Moorhead, MN; step grandchildren, Jeremy Nickelson, Burbank, CA and Jay Nickelson, Madison, WI; brother, Thor Sannes, East Grand Forks, MN; sisters, Helga Anderson, East Grand Forks, MN, Selma Espinosa, Sacramento, CA and Julia Upsdahl, Seattle, WA. Halvor was preceded in death by his wife, Thordis in 1992; his parents; sister, Gertrude "Gertie" DeGagne; brothers, Tharald "Pinky" Sannes and Dreng Sannes.
