David Hartwick Egstad, 76 Grand Forks, died Friday, March 6, 2009 unexpectedly. David was born August 7, 1932 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Ludvig and Judith(Lunde) Egstad(bakken), who emigrated from Vardal, Norway in 1912. David attended Grand Forks schools and graduated from Central High School in 1950. After high school he attended the University of North Dakota and Aakers Business School to begin his life long trade as an accountant. Before and after two years of military services he worked in the family business, Egstad Hardware Company through 1959. His most recent employer was the United States Air Force where he worked from 1959 to 1987 when he retired as a Budget Officer. After retirement, David loved serving individuals and businesses with their accounting and business needs and worked on tax returns just hours before his passing. He married Marvella (Mickey) I. Erickson on December 30, 1956 and for over 50 years loved and served Mickey in the manner how God told us to in Ephesians 5:25 "Husbands love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her." David was a long time member of Bethel Lutheran Church and served over the years in varying capacities. David loved his Church and his faith through his savior and Lord Jesus Christ. David is survived by his wife, Mickey and their children; son, Scott (Jerri) Egstad of Pensacola, Florida, daughter, Stephanie (Chuck) Pachl of Grand Forks: and daughter Stacey (Kelly) Conger of Grand Forks; grandchildren; Michelle (Travis) Surface and Jonathon Pachl of Grand Forks, Jessica (Brian) McCall and David Egstad of Pensacola, Florida and Elizabeth Egstad of Orlando Florida, great grandchild, Annika Surface, one sister, Olive, three brothers Bernard, Louie and Bertrand and many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Judson. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2009 in Bethel Lutheran Church, 1616 South 17th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be in Bethel Lutheran Church from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: Memorial Park South Cemetery in the spring.
