Tilman A. "Tubby" Loyland, 81, Oslo, MN died Monday, March 23, 2009 in The Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Larimore, ND. He was surrounded by his family and in the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Tubby was born April 12, 1927 in Walle Township near Thompson, ND the son of Andrew and Gina (Torgerson) Loyland. He was raised and educated in Walle Township. He moved to Seattle, WA to work for Boeing then Served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Tubby farmed in Walle Township and worked for the Grand Forks Police Department. He also worked with the Sheriff's department as a night jailer. In 1986, Tubby moved to Oslo, MN. He worked as a rural mail carrier until his retirement in 1993. He continued to live in Oslo until moving to the Larimore Good Samaritan Center in 2007. Tubby married Edith Rogalla on November 15, 1958 in Grand Forks, ND. She died December 28, 2001. Tubby always had a smile for everyone. He enjoyed collecting coins and model tractors. He was a fan of both the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He was a member of the American Legion of Oslo, MN and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of East Grand Forks, MN. Survivors include his son, A. Thomas Loyland (special friend Renae Pilcher), Alvarado, MN; daughter, Rita (Terry) Hjelmen, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Sean Loyland and Jamie Loyland of Minneapolis, MN and Shane Hjelmen and Tia Hjelmen of Grand Forks, ND; great grandchildren, Jace Hjelmen and Cayden Hjelmen; sisters, Gudrun Frechin, Adelaide Jensen and Arlene Enyeart all of Washington State. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith; his parents; brothers Lancelot and Veryl and by a sister, Gladys.
