Ervin Gandrud

Ervin O. Gandrud, 89, Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Friday, April 10, 2009 in Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center. Ervin Ovid Gandrud was born to Even and Oline (Gronseth) Gandrud on January 8, 1920 on the farm that they homesteaded near Donnybrook, North Dakota. He graduated from high school at Berthold, North Dakota. Ervin attended Minot State Teacher College. He served in the US Army during World War II and was stationed in Africa, Italy and France. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After his discharge from the military he continued his education at Minot State College, Montana State, and later earned his Master's Degree at the University of North Dakota. Ervin Gandrud and Ardith Ramey were united in marriage on August 23, 1953 at Williston, North Dakota. They lived at Rolla, North Dakota, until moving to Grand Forks in 1955. He was employed as a counselor at South Junior High School until he retired in 1985. Ervin enjoyed hunting, fishing, sporting events, and was a master at conversation. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, and the Golden K. Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife, Ardith, Grand Forks; his children, Bruce (Jane) Gandrud, Oakdale, MN, Craig (Suzanne) Gandrud, Grand Forks; and JoAnn (Eric) Albrecht, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Eric and Thomas Gandrud, and Brianna Albrecht. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Orville; and sisters, Edna Noss, and Gladys Hanson. Services: will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: will be at a later date in Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks.
