Louise Pennington

Louise Elaine (Myxter) Pennington passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2009, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease . During the final two years of her life, she resided at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids, MN. She was a longtime resident of Grand Forks and was a teacher at Viking Elementary School in Grand Forks from the late 1960s until her retirement in 1976. She was born in Balfour, North Dakota on March 26, 1913, and was a graduate of Minot (ND) State College and the University of North Dakota. Louise married J.I. Pennington on June 12, 1937. She and her husband were public school educators in North Dakota before and after World War II. They lived in Makoti, Dickinson and Rugby prior to moving to Grand Forks in 1965. She and J.I. continued to reside in Grand Forks following their respective retirements. In 1998, she moved to Sun City West, AZ, where she resided until her move to the St. Cloud, Minnesota area in 2003, to be near her family during the final years of her life. In her adulthood, Louise loved her teaching career and her generations of students, playing her piano, gardening, making pies, playing bridge, her grandchildren and her many friends in North Dakota and Arizona During her many years in Grand Forks, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Following her move to Arizona, she was a member of Desert Palms Presbyterian Church of Sun City West. She was preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers, her husband (1992), and her son, Bruce (2003). She is survived by her son Kim and daughter in law Cheryl (LaGrave) Pennington of St. Cloud, MN, her grandson, Drew (Samantha) of Beloit, WI and her granddaughters Britt, of Minneapolis, MN and Gwen, of Stillwater, MN. She is also survived by a sister in law (Marion Myxter), several nephews and a niece. Services: will be 11:00 a.m Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment: will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
