Margaret G. Martens, 89, Grand Forks, died Monday, May 18, 2009, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Margaret Geneve Rakstad was born to Sigvert and Mamie ( Jensen) Rakstad on July 3, 1919, at Kempton, North Dakota. At a young age she moved with her family to Palermo, North Dakota, where she graduated from high school. Margaret and Donald Martens were united in marriage on June 4, 1944, in Grand Forks. They lived in a number of cities including Parshall and Minot, North Dakota; Rapid City, South Dakota; and Seattle, Washington, before returning to Grand Forks in 1983. Margaret is survived by her husband, Donald; children, Daniel (Marianne) of Cypress, California, and their children, Donald, Anne (Tony) Ignasiak, and Amme (Ben) Medvitz; James (Karen) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and their sons, Jacob (Malinda), and Joshua (Lynee'); Cheryl (Allen) Fuchs of Grand Forks, and their children, Christie (Greg) Taylor, Curtis (Rachael), and Bradley (Kabie); great-grandchildren, Sydney, William, Isabella, Catherine, Joseph, Steven, Elaina, Jaden, Colten, Ashtyn, Allison, Ryan; sister, Inez (Rudy) Folden, Parshall, North Dakota; brother, Robert (Kay) Rakstad, East Grand Forks, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by brothers, Mac, Norin, Odin; and sisters, Anna Clark, Harriet Nelson, and Marrian Pusc. Services: will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, in Calvary Lutheran Church, 1405 S. 9th St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Prayer Service Friday, May 22, 2009, in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and for the hour prior to the service in the church.
