Michael Wawryk, 82, of Grand Forks, passed away at his home Wednesday, May 20, 2009, surrounded by his family. Mike was born on July 10, 1926, in Shoal Lake, Manitoba, where he grew up, the son of Max & Josephine (Sloan) Wawryk. Mike married Marjorie DeLong on February 27, 1954, in Dunray, Manitoba. They moved to Toronto, Ontario until 1967 when they immigrated to the USA. They made their home in Pekin, IL, where Mike worked for Quaker Oats for 28 years. Following his retirement, they moved to North Dakota in 1990. Mike enjoyed watching the Washington Redskins football team, and fishing. Mike is survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons, Rod (Cheryl) Wawryk of Grand Forks, Terry Wawryk of Rolette, ND, Wade (Mary) Wawryk of Grand Forks; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Glenn Wawryk; brothers, Bernie, Walter and Matt; grandson, Derek Wawryk and daughter-in-law, Susan Wawryk. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Holy Family Catholic Church 1018 18th Ave. S. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: One hour prior to the Funeral Mass.
