Mabel Espegard, 90 of Petersburg, Michigan and Grand Forks, passed away at Valley 4000, Sunday, May 24, 2009. Mabel was born on June 2, 1918 in Nash Township, Petersburg, North Dakota where she grew up and lived for 66 years. The daughter of Andrew and Synvia (Berdahl) Ohnstad. Mabel married Carl Espegard on December 24, 1940 in Crookston, Minnesota. They lived in Helena, Montana and Seattle, Washington before returning to farm in Nash Township, Nelson County. They farmed for over 40 years until Carl's Death in 1983. She then moved to Michigan and later to Grand Forks where she has lived for the last 11 years at Valley 4000. She was active in her Church, Ladies aid and other neighborhood actives while she lived on the farm. Later in life she enjoyed visiting with friends, playing card games and eating out. Mabel is survived by her three children, Carol (Doug) Knain, Duaine (Phyllis) Espegard and Ardean Espegard; 9 grand children and 6 great grand children; Sisters, Agnes Johnson of Grand Forks, and Irene Lehr of Thief River Falls, MN, and many numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl; brothers, Eric Ohnstad of Helena, MT, Walter Ohnstad, Petersburg, ND one infant brother and a sister, Selma Chambers of Bemidji, Minnesota.
