Gladys Turney

Gladys Turney, 92, of East Grand Forks, MN died May 26, 2009 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota Gladys was born March 31, 1917 to Charles and Nora (Brandvold) Bengtson in St. Hilaire, MN. She moved with her family to a farm in Sanders Township where she grew up and attended country school. Following school, Gladys worked for the Chomey family in Thief River Falls, MN. She later worked for the L.B. Hartz Warehouse in the accounts receivable department for several years. Gladys married Luverne Krause, the Massey Harris dealer in Thief River Falls, in 1946. Luverne passed away in 1960. Gladys went back to nursing school and received her LPN degree. Following her graduation in 1961, she worked at the Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN. In 1964, she moved to Grand Forks, ND and began work at the Grand Forks Clinic. Due to health reasons, Gladys retired from nursing in 1971. Gladys married Donald "Buster" Turney in 1972. Buster was an International Harvestor Zone Manager and later a salesman with Reiten & Young Implement. They made their home on 1st Ave North for many years. They also enjoyed their lake home at Twin Lakes near Naytahwaush, MN. Buster passed away in 1988. Gladys moved to the Good Samaritan Heritage Grove in February of 2006. She enjoyed reading about the medical field, following Sioux sports, and visiting friends and family. Gladys enjoyed her many trips to Glacier Park, Montana to visit her brother, nieces and nephews. Gladys belonged to St. Marks Lutheran Church and the East Grand Forks Legion Auxillary. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 husbands, sisters; Ethel Rux, Alice Rux, Stella Erickson, Evelyn Nelson, brothers Clarence, Melvin, Norval and nephews Larry Rux, Darrell Sevre She is survived by12 nieces and nephews; Nancy (Gladwin) Jensen of Park River, ND, Sharon Loch of Ada, MN, Charles (Susan) Bengtson, Jim (Stacy) Bengtson, Karen (Todd) Hileman, John Bengtson, Tom (Sharon) Bengtson, from West Glacier, MT, Susan (Jim) McDonald of LaGrange, KY, Bonnie (Charles) Kuhlman of Blackduck, MN, Jeff (Jami) Nelson of Stephen, MN, Tammy (Craig) Sundby of Argyle, MN, and Mary (Kyle) Johnson of Columbia Falls, MT. Several grand nieces and nephews.
