Myrtle S. Helgesen, 96, of Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Woodside Village, Valley 4000 in Grand Forks. Myrtle S. Johnson was born January 7, 1913 in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of John and Cassie (Weir) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1931. Myrtle married Ole Helgesen on October 22, 1938. Myrtle was employed as a secretary at the First Methodist Church; JoBell DeRemer and Son, Architects; Wesley College; and retired in 1976 after 21 years in the office of Valley Jr. High School. She was a charter member of University Lutheran Church, past president of its WELCA and a long time member of the Bethesda Society. She enjoyed baking, reading , crossword puzzles, playing cards and games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Myrtle is survived by : Son: John (Charleen) Helgesen - Battle Lake, MN Daughter: Martha Haug - Grand Forks Grandchildren: Karla (Timothy) Dalton; Kristin (Jeremy) Kraemer; and Brian Haug. Great Grandchildren: John Dalton, Elizabeth Dalton, and Rachel Kraemer. Sister: LuVerne Larson - St. Paul, MN Many Nieces and Nephews Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband Ole on Dec. 11, 1986; her parents; brothers, Earl, Roy, Donald and a son-in-law B.J., Haug.
