Ruth Ann Gunderson

January 31, 1920 — June 5, 2009

Ruth Ann Gunderson, 89, Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Grand Forks, passed away Friday, June 5, 2009, to be with her husband, Ralph, and family in eternal rest. She moved to Beaver Falls in 2007 living with her daughter, Cheryl Springer, and her husband, Jack. Ruth was born in Grand Forks to John A. and Harriet (Churchill) Miller on January 31, 1920. Ruth lived in Grand Forks, N.D. for 87 years and retired from the University Of North Dakota's Food Service. Ruth married Ralph S. Gunderson on July 26, 1947 in Grand Forks. They celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to his death on August 15, 1998. She was a life member of VFW Auxiliary Post # 1874 and a 43 year member of American Legion Auxiliary unit 157, East Grand Forks. Ruth loved telling stories of her days in the shipyards of Portland, Ore., during World War II. Ruth loved to listen to Sunday church services on the radio. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Jack Springer, Beaver Falls; three granddaughters, Christy Hughes and husband Bill, Ellwood City; Jana Jandra and husband, Michael, Berkley, Ca., and Jaclyn Gray and husband Gary, Hopewell Township. She was affectionately called "G.G" by her five great-grandchildren, Woodrow and Calvin Hughes, Jake and Malia Jandra, and Connor Gray. She also leaves behind many relatives and friends in North Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Gunderson, two brothers and three sisters.
