Donald G. McConnachie, 69, Grand Forks, ND died Sunday, June 28, 2009 at home due to ongoing health problems. Donald Grant McConnachie was born April 28, 1940 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada the son of Elmer and Alice (Graving) McConnachie. He came to Grand Forks with his mother and brother at the age of 10 following his dad's death. He graduated from The University of North Dakota in 1962 with a business degree. He married Judy Robertson on August 5, 1961 in the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Forks. Don served in the Air Force National Guard for 4 years. Don worked as a manager for F. W. Woolworth's in several upper Midwest communities and settled in Minneapolis, MN. In 1982, he returned to Grand Forks and purchased the Ben Franklin Store which he and his wife owned and operated until 1996. Don loved spending time with family and friends at his lake cabin at Maple lake. Most of his work and free time were spent with his best friend and love of his life Judy. He also enjoyed coffee time with friends and especially appreciated time with his coffee buddies in recent years. He enjoyed photography and took as many pictures of his grandchildren as they would allow. He was a member of the Kiwanis and SCORE "Service Corp of Retired Executives" and served as a deacon and volunteer at First Presbyterian Church of Grand Forks. Survivors include, son, Richard "Rick" (Becki) McConnachie, Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Kris McConnachie, Dan McConnachie, Torina McConnachie and Jennifer McConnachie all of Bismarck, ND. Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Judy in 2002; his son, Timothy in 1975; granddaughter Corina and a brother, John.
