Betty M. Spicer, 82, of East Grand Forks, died Friday, August 14, 2009 at Valley Eldercare Center, Grand Forks, ND. Betty M. Tessman was born on December 17, 1926 in Bartlett, ND the daughter of Herman and Amy (Thompson) Tessman. Betty grew up and attended school in Bartlett, ND and graduated from Central High School. She then attended Mayville State Teachers College and earned her teaching degree. She taught one year in a rural school near Bartlett. She married Earl M. Spicer on September 12, 1947 in Grand Forks. Betty worked as a daycare provider and a foster parent before working as a cook for the Delta Epsilon Fraternity at UND. Betty was a very special person and touched many lives, she will be greatly missed. Betty is survived by: Sons: Chuck (Patty)Spicer - Hillsboro Todd (Denise) Spicer - Fosston Kent (Denise) Spicer - Grand Forks Daughters: Amy (David)Johnson - Tabor Mary (Jeff) McKeever - Climax Beth (Doug) Anderson - Grand Forks Brothers: Marlyn (Donna) Tessman - California Robert (Pat) Hoop - Michigan Dewey (Sady) Cady ) Early, TX Sister: Sandy (Mark) Mitchell - Evansville, IN Many grandchildren and great grandchildren She was preceded in death by her husband Earl; a brother James Hoop; a foster daughter, Dorothy Head and her parents.
