James Truman Odegard, 73, passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN after a nearly 7 year battle with cancer. Jim was born May 7, 1936 in Minot, ND to his Mother Clara and Father Truman. Jim was raised in Minot and attended Minot State for his undergraduate degree and then onto UND for law school. After law school, Jim worked briefly in private practice, before going to work for the States Attorneys office where he served 23 years as the States Attorney for Grand Forks County. Jim married Carolyn Garner May 6, 1961. Jim and Cari enjoyed 48 years of marriage before Jims passing. Jim was always passionate about spending time with family, especially his 5 grandchildren, Rachel, Eric Jr., Kylie, Rogan and Sutton and 1 step granddaughter, Karina. Jim is survived by wife Carolyn; daughter Lori, Rochester; son Eric (Lynn), Sarasota, FL.; 5 grandchildren, 1 step-granddaughter; sister, JoAnn (Lyle) Samuelson, Minot; sister-in-law, Diane Odegard, Grand Forks; brother-in-law, Ed (Kathy) Garner, California. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, John. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2009 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut St., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, September 4, 2009 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St, Grand Forks, and for one hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: private interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
