Donald L. Hoverson, 89, Grand Forks, and formerly of Manvel, North Dakota, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in Valley Memorial Homes Eldercare Center. Donald Leo Hoverson was born to Richard and Vera (Colosky) Hoverson on December 1, 1919 in Manvel., North Dakota. He was raised and educated at Manvel, graduating from Manvel High School in 1937. He served in the US Navy Seabees during World War II, stationed in the Pacific Theater. Upon discharge from the military, he returned to Manvel, and was employed by the Grand Forks County Highway Department where he retired as a County Road and Highway Supervisor until he retired in 1987. He was a Past Mayor of Manvel, charter member of Manvel Senior Center and a lifelong member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church. Donald enjoyed; playing cards, and BINGO in recent years with his friends, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and he enjoyed traveling across the country including recently traveling to Washington, DC, on the Veterans Honor Flight in April of this year, which he enjoyed very much. He was an active member of St. Timothy's Catholic Church, the Manvel Senior Center and was Past Commander and 53-year member of the Manvel American Legion. Donald is survived by a sister, Verna Lindsay, Grand Forks; sister-in-law, Shirley Hoverson, Manvel; nieces, Jean (Bill) Keegan, Jane (Joe) McDonald, Jeanette and Barb Lindsay, Rosemary Holweger, Cathy (Steve) Millemon, Dr. Rita (Don) Archer, Jody (Doug) Slominski, Maureen (Van) Johnson, Ann (Rodney) Teigen, Terese (Jim) Miranda, and nephews: Jack and Greg Lindsay, Bob, Tom, Richard, Tim (Brenda) and Bill (Carol) Hoverson, and many other relatives and friends. Don has 84 great nieces and nephews who look to him as a grandpa figure. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William, Ferdy, and Richard; sister-in-law, Ruth M. Hoverson; a brother-in-law, Lyle Lindsay; nephew Rick Lindsay; and a niece Judy (Chuck) Birkholtz. Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2009 in St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Manvel, North Dakota. Visitation: will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Thursday, September 10, 2009 in St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Manvel. Interment: St. Timothy's Catholic Cemetery, Manvel, North Dakota. Military Honors: Manvel American Legion and North Dakota National Guard Memorials: are preferred to Manvel Senior Center or St. Timothy's Catholic Church.
