Marjorie Laura Potter

Marjorie L. (Laura) Potter died Friday October 9 at the Woodside Village community. She was 81. Laura had suffered from Alzheimer's for nearly twenty years before her death. Laura Potter was born Oct. 14, 1928 in Dallas, TX the daughter of Howard and Ethyl Gardner. With her family, she returned to Henderson TX where she graduated from Henderson High School, and entered Kilgore Jr. College in 1946. In August 1948 Laura married 2nd Lt. Thomas L. Allen in San Antonio TX. The couple moved to Fairchild AFB in Seattle WA, where Lt. Allen was stationed as a co-pilot flying B-17 bombers. Their son Thomas L. Allen II was born in Seattle on September 29, 1949. Six weeks later, Lt. Allen was involved in a training accident during instrument flight conditions in heavy overcast. As a result of a head on collision of two aircraft, the entire flight crews of both aircraft perished. Lt. Allen was buried in his home town of San Antonio TX. Laura and her infant son then returned to Henderson to be with her parents. In 1955, Mrs. Potter and her son returned to San Antonio in search of better employment opportunities. She soon met Robert V. Potter of Boulder CO, who was s Specialist 3C stationed at the Fort Sam Houston army post in San Antonio. The couple married in 1955 and soon moved back to Boulder when Mr. Potter's period of military service ended. Mr. Potter took over the drug store founded by his grandfather, and practiced pharmacy in Boulder until his death in 1979. Mrs. Potter was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lue Evelyn Pewthers and her husbands. She is survived by a son Thomas A. Potter (Weezie Streamer) of Grand Forks, ND, by three grandchildren, Sara (Dave) Whalen of Grand Forks, Thomas A. Potter Jr. (Ashley McCullogh) of Madison, GA and Glenn Gardner Potter (Katherine Aaser) of Wheatridge CO., by seven great grand children and by her nephew Dick Pewthers of Austin TX. Services held at a later date in Texas.
