Glenn Stanley Thompson, 80, of Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, October 31, 2009 in Valley Eldercare Center. Glenn was born April 1, 1929 to Charles and Constance (Lee) Thompson. He was born in Backoo, ND and raised in Walhalla, ND. He served in the US Army and in the Korean War from 1948-1951 as a tank crewman and sergeant. For his service, Glenn received two bronze stars and a purple heart. He was a member of the American Legion, Bartlette Ressler Post #62. Glenn married Marlo Mathison on July 6, 1953 in Walhalla. Together, Glenn and Marlo owned and operated several cafes in Pembina County. In 1971, they built Thompson's Bakery and Café in Walhalla, ND. They operated the café until his retirement. He also ran the concessions at the Walhalla Country Club for several years. Upon retirement , Glenn and Marlo relocated to Grand Forks in 1998. Glenn is survived by: Wife of 56 years: Marlo Children: Gwen (Jim) Menke - Fargo Carolyn (Scott) Faehn - Fargo Marilyn Sheehan - Fargo Jackie (Rick) Bratvold - Grand Forks Leslie (Dawn) Thompson - Grand Forks 14 Grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren Sisters: Lola Laidlaw - Walhalla- Connalee (Allan) Chisholm - Mesa, AZ Sister-in-law: Iona Thompson - Grand Forks Brother-in-laws: Merle (Beth) Mathison and Arden (Kathleen) Mathison Several nieces and nephews Pallbearers: Daryl Thompson, Jeff Mathison, Jerry Thompson, Brad Chisholm, Gary Flaa, Kelly Kram Honorary Pallbearers: Grandchildren: Tanya, Mystie, Jamie, Michael, Adam, Jessica, Alex, Joel, Erik, Carly, Katie, Jasper, Karisa and Francesca; Great Grandchildren: Taeber, Austin, Dylan, Logan and Fischer. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leslie, Gordon and Kenneth.
