Helen M. Kjelmyr, 93, Grand Forks, ND died Tuesday, November 17, 2009 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare of Grand Forks. Helen Marjorie Kjelmyr was born November 27, 1915 in Leeds, ND the daughter of Peter and Dora (Coughlin) Kjelmyr. She was raised and educated at Leeds and graduated from high school there in 1933. Helen graduated University of North Dakota with a Bachelors Degree in 1937. While attending UND, she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority and was listed Who's Who in 1937. She taught for some time in Chicago, IL. Helen earned her Master's Degree from the University of Iowa in 1948 then returned to North Dakota. Helen was a Professor of Business in the UND Department of Business Management until her retirement on May 7, 1977. She served as a UND Board of Governors Advisor from 1961-1963. She enjoyed travel, music and time with her great nieces and nephews. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Forks. Survivors include her niece, Helen Diane (James) Tufte, York, ND; nephew, John P. Kjelmyr, Lone Tree, Co; Three great nieces, one great nephew and sister-in-law, Julia E. Kjelmyr. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother, Philip C. Kjelmyr.
