Erwin Herzog, age 86 of Grand Forks, North Dakota passed away November 29, 2009 after a brief illness. Erwin was born May 6, 1923, the son of Julius and Hilda (Thom) Herzog of Neche, North Dakota where he grew up and attended school. On November 10, 1942, he married Estelle Kuehner. Erwin was in the Civilian Conservation Corp and a World War II Veteran. After returning from the service, he owned and operated a Standard Oil Dealership in Cavalier. In 1954, Erwin purchased the Chrysler Dealership from Kuball Motors in Cavalier and renamed the company Erwin Motors, in 1976 his son Timothy purchased the business. Upon Erwin's retirement in 1979, he and Estelle moved to Mesa, Arizona where they lived for 18 years. In 1997, Erwin and Estelle relocated to Grand Forks. Erwin was a member of the Cavalier Methodist Church; where he served on the church council, American Legion Post #11, Tongue River Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shrine Kem Temple. Erwin also served as an advisor on the Chrysler Dealer Council. Erwin is survived by his wife Estelle; daughter Penny (Mark) Green, Minneapolis, MN; Timothy (Judith) Herzog, Grand Forks, ND; and Michael (Linda) Herzog, Phoenix, AZ; 6 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister Lillian Zimmer, Minneapolis, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding Erwin in death were his parents; brothers Godfrey and Herbert Herzog; sisters Marie Vlasek; Marty Halvorson and Lenore Trautt; one grandchild, John Herzog and one great-grandchild, Anna Virginia Herzog.
