Gerald S. Fortman, 56, of Grand Forks, passed away on January 16, 2010 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Gerald was born on December 3, 1953 in Mayville, ND, the son of James and Lucille (Nygaard) Fortman. He grew up and attended schools in Thompson and graduated from Red River High School in 1972. Gerald attended college at UND where he received a BA degree. Gerald married Doris Carpenter on June 30th, 1984. He worked at several places including Hugo's and Target where he was a meat cutter and most recently at Lithia Ford as a salesman. Gerald enjoyed golfing, going to casinos, and spending time with family. Gerald is survived by his wife Doris of Grand Forks; daughters, Michelle Carlson of Jacksonville, FL, Heidi (Stuart) Carlson of Aberdeen, SD; son, John (CaLyn) Fortman of Grand Forks; grandchildren, Janah'ya, Dominic, Jacob, Blake, Michael and Steven; sisters, Marsha (Henry) Zolondek, Karen Delude; brother, Lanny (Karen) Fortman and several nieces and nephews . Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. FUNERAL SERVICES: 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2010 at Sharon Lutheran Church 1720 S. 20th St. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, January 21 at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the funeral at the church. INTERMENT: Memorial Park South Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
