Robert Worden Hart

Robert W. Hart, 92, of Grand Forks (formerly of Bathgate), passed away January 31, 2010 at 4000 Valley Square in Grand Forks. Robert was born on February 11, 1917 in Joliette, ND, the son of John and Effie (Storms) Hart. At the age of nine he and his family moved to Pembina, ND. He graduated from Pembina High School in 1934. In 1935 he joined the Civil Conservation Corps (CCC's) and worked on various projects in ND, SD, MT, and ID. He was discharged in 1938. In December 1941, he joined the US Navy and continued in the service until October of 1945. He received the Silver Star, which is the third highest award given for distinguished service. Robert became manager for the GTA (Harvest States) Grain Elevator for 34 years. Robert married Shirley Zimmerman on December 24, 1946 in New Rockford, ND. They lived in Bathgate for 45 years and then moved to Grand Forks. Robert was a Presbyterian church elder, mayor and council member of Bathgate, Neche school board member, Pioneer Rest Home board member, Boy Scout Leader, 60 year member of Cavalier/Bathgate Masonic Lodge, and an American Legion member. Robert's interests include gardening, hunting, bowling, fishing and reading. Robert and his wife raised two girls, Barbara (Daniel) Harms of Deer River, MN and Debra (Larry) Tollefson of Selby, SD. They have four grandchildren; Ryan (Michelle) Tollefson, Rachel (Michael) Froelich, Jay (Laura) Harms and Justin Harms. They also have four great-grandchildren, Meagan, Bailey, Brayden, and Robert. He is survived by many friends and other relatives and will be deeply missed by them. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and infant daughter.
