Ervin Staveteig

Ervin T. Staveteig, 86, of McHenry, IL died Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at his home. He was born Aug. 17, 1923, on a farm near Thompson, ND, the son of Ole and Mabel (Stundahl) Staveteig. He attended Walle Country School and graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks in 1941. He was active in Luther League at Walle Lutheran Church and also active in the 4-H program. In the fall of 1941, he attended the University of North Dakota. Ervin served in the U.S. Naval Reserve for 3 1/2 years as a Naval Medic stationed at Great Lakes, Marine Base, Parris Island, SC, Charleston, SC, Norfolk, VA, Seattle, Portland, and San Francisco. He married Ruth Hebert on July 3, 1945 in California. They settled in Seattle where he worked for International Harvester Co. for 35 years. He was later transferred to Portland, OR, and Oakland, CA. He was promoted and transferred to Springfield, where he opened an accounting office. After seven years he was transferred to Chicago Home Office of International Harvester Co. He was a marketing accounting manager until he retired in 1983. Ervin also worked as Parish Coordinator for his church for six years. He became a Realtor with Midwest Farm and Land and later worked for Century 21, largely in the commercial field. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ruth; children, Linda Staveteig of McHenry, Kaaren (Chuck Fisher) Staveteig of Ashton, MD, Laurie (Jim) Mangieri of Chandler, AZ, and Eric (Anne) Staveteig of Johnsburg; six grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd (Beulah) Staveteig of Grand Forks, ND, Robert (The late Mary Ann) Staveteig of Grand Forks and George (Betty) Staveteig of Grand Forks; sisters, Lorraine (the late Byron) Amundson of Grand Forks, and Deloris (the late Leo) Landerville of Grand Forks. Funeral Services will be in McHenry, IL.
