Avonne Goodman

Avonne C. "Vonnie" Goodman Vonnie Goodman, 82 of Grand Forks, ND and Bemidji, MN passed away on Monday, March 22, 2010 at Havenwood Care Center of Bemidji. Vonnie was born on September 21, 1927 in Grand Forks the daughter of A.T. and Cleo Skarsbo. She grew up in Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. During her childhood, Vonnie was a member of the Sons & Daughters of Norway and had the honor of dancing for King Haakon VII of Norway. Vonnie attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks where she was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and she remained active as an alumni. Vonnie was baptized, confirmed and then was married on June 12, 1948 to Charles "Chuck" Goodman in the United Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. Vonnie was active throughout her adult life in Chapter AO of PEO, the Grand Forks Republican Women and participated in the annual house tours along with being involved in the Church Women's Organization at United Lutheran Church. Vonnie was involved in the organization of Home Delivered Meals. Vonnie enjoyed a lifetime of summer living with family and friends at the Goodman Gazebo lake home on Grace Lake near Bemidji MN. She delighted in the peace, beauty and tranquility of lake life and thoroughly enjoyed all the visits to the lake of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vonnie and Chuck loved to escape the North Dakota winters for many years in Arizona. Vonnie was also interested in needlepoint, ceramics, bridge, gardening and traveling. Vonnie is survived by three children, Vicki and husband, John Boyce of San Antonio, TX, Dan and wife, Deb Goodman of Grand Forks ND, Doug and wife, Julie Goodman of Fort Myers, FL; 9 grandchildren: Erin (Steve) Chase, Dr. Ashley Summers, Greg Summers, Olivia Boyce, Greg Goodman, Mark (Kristy) Goodman, Justin (Kristi) Goodman, Jill (Jeff) Brion and Reed Goodman. Vonnie was known and loved as "GG" to her 12 great-grandchildren: Ryan, Charles and Tyler Chase; Shayanne and Garett Goodman; Taylor Schantz; Devin, Andre, Lily and Reese Goodman; Madison and Gracyn Brion, sister, Beverly Bentz of Lodi, CA; sisters-in-law; Bernie Goodman of Grand Forks; Doris (Wally) Person of San Leandro, CA along with a niece and numerous nephews. Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Sandra and husband, Charles; brothers-in-law, Gene Goodman and William Bentz. Vonnie enjoyed her final time at Tamarack Court in Bemidji with other residents and staff.
