Adelaide Bertha Korpi

Adelaide "Addie" Korpi, 92, passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND after a short illness on March 23, 2010. She lived in Grand Forks since 1999 and was a resident of Parkwood Place and Valley Eldercare Center. Addie was born in Crookston, MN, the daughter of Herman and Amelia Fiedler, on April 23, 1917. She grew up in Crookston and attended elementary school there, but graduated from high school in Grand Rapids, MN in 1935. She attended normal school In Duluth, MN, received her teaching degree, and subsequently taught school in a one-room country schoolhouse in the Deer River, MN area. She met her future husband, Nels Korpi, there and they were married on August 10, 1940. Later in life she completed her bachelor's degree at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and taught second grade in Cohassett, MN for 27 years. For most of her adult life she resided in Grand Rapids, MN, and after retirement lived on Deer Lake near Deer River, MN, where she and Nels spent many happy years together until his death in 1998. Addie enjoyed traveling, reading, baking, playing cards, and visiting with her many friends and family members. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teaching sorority. She was a long-time member of Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids, and attended Augustana Lutheran Church when she moved to Grand Forks. Addie is survived by her son, Neil Korpi of Minneapolis, MN, daughter Adele Laudal, Grand Forks, grandchildren Jamie Olson, East Grand Forks, Daniel Laudal, Grand Forks, and great-grandsons Christian Olson and Sebastian Olson, and several nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers Albert, Herman Jr., Carl, and Walter, and sisters Louise Krogman, Minnie Avelsgaard, Caroline Robinson, Emily Montreuil, and Martha Schmitt. MEMORIAL SERVICES: 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Augustana Lutheran Church 520 University Ave. in Grand Forks. INURNMENT: Inurnment will occur at a later date at Christ Memorial Episcopal Church in Grand Rapids, Minnesota
