Roger T. Simundson, 62, Grand Forks, North Dakota, died Saturday, April 10, 2010 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks after a lengthy battle with cancer. Roger Thomas Simundson was born to Joe and Vallee Ann (Thorstienson) Simundson on May 5, 1947 in Grand Forks. He lived with his parents at Hensel, North Dakota. As a young child, he moved with his family to Grand Forks. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks, graduating from Central High School in 1965. He attended the University of North Dakota and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Roger Simundson and Cheryl Durkin were united in marriage on August 9, 1969 in Grand Forks. They resided in Grand Forks where Roger was employed by Minnkota Power for over 30 years until he recently retired. Roger was a quiet man with a special smile. He loved spending time at the lake. He enjoyed fishing whether he caught anything or not. His other hobby was working in his garage on small engines. He was determined to fight his illness and received 6 ½ years of excellent, compassionate care from Altru Cancer Center. Roger is survived by his wife, Cheryl, Grand Forks; children, Julie Simundson and her daughter, Lily, of Astoria, Oregon, and James Simundson, Grand Forks; his mother, Vallee Ann Simundson, Grand Forks; brothers, Barry Simundson, Cassleton, North Dakota, and Jon (Pat) Simundson, Grand Forks. He is preceded in death by his father, Joe Simundson. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in University Lutheran Church, 2122 University Ave., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Tuesday, April 13, 2010 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks, and for the hour prior to the service in the church. Interment: will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Forks.
