Norval D. Nelson, 76, Grand Forks died Wednesday, May 19, 2010 in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks. Norval Dale Nelson was born to Arther "Art" and Margaret (Geddes) Nelson at Northwood North Dakota on February 22, 1934. He was raised and educated at Northwood, graduating from Northwood High School in 1952. Norval and Audrey Thingelstad were united in marriage on June 26, 1955 at Northwood. Norval graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1959. He farmed with his father until 1969. Norval started the Big Sioux Truck Stop in 1969 which he owned and operated until 1979. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for over 30 years, working for various contractors in the area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, the outdoors, spending time with family, and teaching his grandchildren to hunt. Norval is survived by his wife, Audrey, Grand Forks; 4 children, Kris Troland (Greg), West Fargo, ND; Kathy Hofer (Cornell), Fargo, ND, Karla Lewton (Doug), Bison, SD, Mick Nelson, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Dustin Scott (Jennifer), Tim and Tyler Hofer, Amy Shape (Geoff), Taira, Christopher, and Zachary Nelson; great grandchildren, Camden Parkhust and Dylan Scott; a sister Ruth Pedersen (Willard), Northwood, ND; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and 4 grandchildren. Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 in Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks.
