Helen Ruth Boldish

August 5, 1917 — May 28, 2010

Helen Ruth Vanderhoof Boldish Helen Ruth Vanderhoof Boldish went to heaven on May 28, 2010, the day of her husband's birthday. Helen was born August 5,1917, in Elmira, New York, and loved sharing her stories of living in the hills of that beautiful state and working on the farm, or later, in a factory where she was an extremely fast seamstress earning pennies on each garment she sewed. She married Peter Boldish on Feb. 17, 1940 and later moved to Endicott, New York. After 18 years of marriage she shocked everyone by announcing that she was pregnant, and at the age of 40, she gave birth to her daughter, Carrie, and two years later, she gave birth to Jennie. Helen was a wonderful mother and sought to give her daughters a wonderful childhood just as she had. She enthusiastically endorsed her girls having every pet imaginable, and of course, sewed all of their clothes. Helen was enormously talented and skilled in so many things including quilting, knitting, crocheting, canning, etc. After the death of her husband, Helen moved to North Dakota in 1997,and lived independently until March 2010. She loved her house in Gilby, North Dakota, and was especially proud of mowing her own lawn, and handling all of her maintenance herself. She loved so many people within the Gilby community and soon became the favorite person to do clothing alterations for many. She is preceded in death by her husband, Peter, and her brothers and sisters. She is mother of Carrie Boldish (Kent Cronquist) and Jennie Boldish Bryan (Wayne Bryan). She called each of her son-in-laws her "favorite." She was especially delighted to have 6 grandchildren:Nicholas Boldish Cronquist, Dexter Boldish Cronquist, Allison Boldish Bryan, Kathryn Boldish Cronquist, Hayley Boldish Cronquist, and Mary Boldish Bryan. She was especially loved by her five cats (and probably more) who gave her wonderful companionship, as well as the thousands of birds that she faithfully fed. Helen was incredibly funny, kind, honest, and hard working. She loved the Lord with all her heart and now rejoices in heaven.
