Gordon Bondy

Gordon I. Bondy, 84, Grand Forks, died Saturday, June 12, 2010 in 4000 Valley Square - Woodside Village. Gordon Ingdolph Bondy was born December 22, 1925 in Rural Fordville, North Dakota to Arne and Josephine (Vangsness) Bondy. He was baptized at the Middle Forest River Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Dahlen Lutheran Church. He attended school in Dahlen. Gordon was drafted into the US Army Air Force on June 18, 1945. After training at Kessler AFB and Sheppard AFB in Texas, he was sent to Berlin, Germany and assigned to the Fire Dept. until his discharge in November, 1946. He worked on the family farm until his marriage to Pauline Roseland on May 26, 1948 in Crookston, Minnesota. They had a double ceremony with Pauline's cousin, Margie Ueland and Gordon's friend, Oscar Hemmingson. He attended the State School of Science at Wahpeton for two years under the GI Bill. His first job was at Hansen Ford, then Great Northern Railroad. In January, 1952, he began his employment with the Bureau of Mines (now EERC). While working at EERC, he worked part-time for Phillips 66 and Deraney's Mobile Station. He worked at EERC for 35 years until he retired on December 31, 1986. Gordon and Pauline were charter members of Calvary Lutheran Church. In 1958 they became members of University Lutheran Church where he was custodian and head usher for many years and a Sunday School Superintendent. He was Cubmaster at Winship School for seven years, and was also active there in PTA. He was a member of Golden K Kiwanis, Sons of Norway, 55 and Over Club at his church, and an active member of AAL. His hobbies were woodworking and "all around handyman". He liked traveling, listening to music, family camping, like the trip to Alaska in 1965 and visiting Norway in 1989. Gordon and Pauline spent 18 winters in Tucson, Arizona. Gordon is survived by his wife, Pauline, Grand Forks; children, Susan (Larry) Humble, Grand Forks, Gloria Corbit, Scottsdale, AZ, Rod Bondy, Rural Fisher, MN, Gary (Jan) Bondy, Williston, ND, Paul (April) Bondy, Sahuarita, AZ, Karen Dahl, Grand Forks, and Steven (Dondi) Bondy, Grand Forks; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lila Schoyen, Enderlin, ND. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Owen, Arnold "Bud", and Orlin "Sonny", and a sister, Ione Carlson. Funeral Services: will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 19, 2010 at University Lutheran Church, 2122 University Ave., Grand Forks. Visitation: will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service on Friday June 18, 2010 at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., Grand Forks and one hour prior to the funeral service in the church. Interment: will be in Memorial Park North Cemetery, Grand Forks.
