Perry Nakonechny

May 15, 1963 — July 14, 2010

Perry Shawn Nakonechny, 47 of Grand Forks, ND, died on July 14, 2010 after an inspirational battle with cancer. Perry was born May 15, 1963 to the late Edward and Nettie (Ukrainec) Nakonechny in Dauphin, MB, Canada. He graduated from the Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School in 1981. He was a member of the Dauphin Kings hockey team from 1980-1983. Perry attended the University of North Dakota and received his BBA in 1987. While attending UND, he was a four-year letter winner on the Fighting Sioux hockey team, and was a member of the National Championship team in 1987. He continued his education and received a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1988 and a Master of Science in 1993. Perry married Mickie Volk in 1988. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND. Their sons Tyler and Bryan were born in 1991 and daughter Brenna in 1994. Perry worked for the Grand Forks School District for 22 years. His current position was Network Services Coordinator in the technology department. Perry coached hockey at Red River high school from 1988 to 1993. His greatest joy, however, came from coaching his daughter Brenna's hockey team, the Grand Forks Angels, seconded only by the time he spent on the golf course with his son Tyler. Perry is survived by his wife, Mickie; son, Tyler, and his daughter Brenna, all of Grand Forks; his mother, Nettie Nakonechny of Dauphin, MB; brother, Pat (Laurie) Nakonechny of Manitou, MB; sister, Peggy (Bill) Zazulak of Brandon, MB; father and mother-in law, Jim and Cathie Volk of Bismarck, ND; sisters-in-law, Karen (Terry) Hulm, of Bismarck, ND, Deb (Grant) Dunham and Sue (Keith) Swanson, both of Grand Forks, and his beloved nieces and nephews. Perry was preceded in death by his infant son, Bryan James, and his father, Edward.
