Dale G. Nelson, age 76, of Grand Forks, ND, died at his home on Thursday, July 15. Dale was born on August 24th, 1933 to Bertram and Dorothy (Christianson) Nelson in Grand Forks. He served with the U.S. army in Fairbanks, Alaska. On August 25, 1956, he married Helen Torgerson in Great Falls, MT. They traveled all over the U.S, as well as to Norway, Russia, Germany, and much of South America; including Panama where he worked as a volunteer building churches. Dale was a member of Sons of Norway and the American Legion. Over the last fifteen years he and Helen have wintered in Mesa, AZ. Dale was proud of his career as a bricklayer. He was a member of the Bricklayer's Union for over fifty years. He began Nelson Masonry in the early fifties and ran it until he retired in the mid-nineties. He worked on many buildings in Grand Forks and around the United States. Dale had a great love for his family, a zest for life, and had wide and varied interests including; fishing, golf, his Model-T, and his Harley. He was a great storyteller and told captivating stories about his life experiences. Dale was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. We'd like to say a special thanks to his friend, Pastor Ray Corlew, for his dedication and loyalty. Dale was survived by his wife, Helen; brothers, John (Millie) and Allen (Vera) Nelson, and sister, Deanna Asay. Immediate Family includes: Eddie (Julie) Nelson, Lori (Dean) Bjerk, Billie Jo (Kim) Bayne, Darcy (Rick) Berg, Danny (Dawn) Nelson. Grandchildren: Nichole, Jared, Amber, Mandy, Cheryl, Carrie, Joey, Lee, Chelsey, Christina, Taylor, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Rodney, and son, Chris. FUNERAL SERVICES: Tuesday, July 20, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at Valley Christian Center 3920 Cherry St. in Grand Forks. VISITATION: Monday, July 19, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. with an 8pm prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home 2975 S. 42nd St. Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the funeral service at the church. INTERMENT: Memorial Park South Cemetery of Grand Forks, ND. MILITARY HONORS: N.D.
