Donald "Donn" C. Lovegren, 78, Grand Forks, ND died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Donald Claire Lovegren was born March 14, 1932, in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Claus and Mayme (Nelson) Lovegren. He was raised and educated in Grand Forks and graduated from Central High School in 1951. Donn graduated from the University of North Dakota in 1955 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. While at UND, Donn was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and was on the board of trustees for many years. After graduating from UND, Donn served in the U. S. Army. Donn began his teaching career in Lake Bronson, MN and Ada, MN, and served for over 30 years as the high school librarian in Crookston, MN. Donn married Sonja Olson on May 21, 1989, in Grand Forks, ND. Donn had a very generous nature. He was a gracious host who made numerous friends. He was a gifted gardener and maintained beautiful flower beds and yard. Donn contributed his time and talents to the Grand Forks Historical Society and served on the board for a number of years. Donn enjoyed all things Scandinavian. Survivors include his brother Richard (Kathe) Lovegren, Irvine, CA; sister Carol (Malcolm) Brown, Mandan, ND; nieces and nephews Christopher (Jodi) Brown, Mandan, ND; Stephanie (Bret) Lathrop and grandnephew Cole, Orting, WA; Vicki Lynn (Michael) Wilcox, Juneau, AK; Stacy Lovegren, San Jose, CA; Tracy (Brent Peterson) Lovegren, San Jose, CA; Russell Lovegren, San Francisco, CA; Kristian Lovegren, Irvine, CA; Leif Lovegren, Irvine, CA; step-daughters Becci (Jonathan) Carlson, Shakopee, MN; stepgrandsons Nathan, Zachary and Noah; and Cynthia (John) Manzoline, Peoria, AZ and stepgranddaughter Brittany; and sisters-in-law Vicki Lovegren, Olympia, WA and Verona Anderson. Donn was preceded in death by his wife, Sonja, his parents and two brothers, Wayne Lovegren and Colonel (Ret.) Nelson Lovegren. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, July 24, 2010 in United Lutheran Church, 324 Chestnut Street, Grand Forks, ND. Donn was a lifetime member of this church and was baptized, confirmed and married there. Donn's family wishes to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided him by the excellent team of doctors and nurses, as well as support staff, in the Intensive Care Unit. Memorials may be given to the United Lutheran Church's Radio Fund. Visitation will be for an hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery of Grand Forks.
