Treumann J. Lykken

Treumann Joseph Lykken, 90, of Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Altru Hospital, from complications of a broken hip. Treumann Lykken was born on February 10, 1920, to Joseph and Ragna (Thompson) in Adams, ND. He grew up and attended school in rural Adams, ND. On April 6, 1946 he married Margaret Lothspeich in Langdon, ND, they were married for 56 years. He worked for the Gambles Store in Grafton, Carrington, Bismarck, ND and Webster, SD. They settled in Grand Forks, ND in 1954 where he was employed with Sears and Roebuck for 28 years. He retired in 1982. On his 21st birthday he joined the National Guard, 164th Infantry, Company C, in Grafton, ND. He served in several locations including Guadalcanal and was discharged in 1945. Throughout his life he maintained an active membership in the 164th Infantry. Treumann was a member of the American Legion for 66 years. He served as the Post Commander, Second District Commander and Eastern Region Vice Commander. He was elected the Department of North Dakota Commander serving from June 1975 to June 1976. He then served two three - year terms on the National Americanism Committee. When Treumann retired he and Margaret started spending their winters in Mesa Village where they were active members of the community and established many lifelong friends. Treumann has been a member of Sharon Lutheran Church since 1954. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. For the last seven years he enjoyed the company of his close friend Eloise McCabe. He was very devoted to his family and lived his life fully. He was the "rock" of the family and a very loving and calm person. Treumann was well thought of and was looked up to by so many people. His laughter brightened everybody's day. Treumann was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; sisters, Beulah and Corina; and brothers Harvey, Gordon and Leo.
