Ione Brenna

Ione L. Brenna died Friday, August 6, 2010 in Valley Eldercare at the age of 92 surrounded by her family. Ione was born November 14, 1917, the daughter of George and Laura (Johnson) Block in Grand Forks, ND. She grew up in Allendale Township and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1935. Ione married Willard Brenna on September 10, 1939 at Evanger Lutheran Church where they were lifelong members. They farmed in Brenna Township until 1956 when they moved to Grand Forks. Ione worked at Norby's Department Store for many years where she made lifelong friends otherwise known as "The Norby Girls". Ione is survived by five sons, David (Joanne), Terry, Bob, Jim and Mark; five grandchildren; sister, Wanda Block of CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; sisters, June Heth and Eunice Tomaselli; brothers, Russell Block and Warren Block. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Valley Eldercare and to Hospice for their extreme kindness and their care of Ione. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, August 12, 2010 in Evanger Lutheran Church of Rural Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks, ND. Visitation will continue for the hour before the service in the church. Burial will be in Evanger Lutheran Cemetery Memorials: the family prefers memorials be directed to the Evanger Lutheran Cemetery fund.
