Alpha Scott

Alpha Dezotell Scott, 95, Grand Forks, ND died Friday, September 24, 2010 in Valley Memorial Home Eldercare of Grand Forks, with family by her side. Alpha Margaret Tangen was born September 19, 1915 near Pekin, ND, the daughter of Andrew and Sina (Engebretson) Tangen. She was raised and educated at Pekin until the family moved to McVille, ND in 1931. Alpha attended and graduated from McVille High School in 1933. Soon after she moved to Grand Forks, ND, where she met and married Fred Dezotell in 1937. They shared 26 years of love and marriage, living in California for a short time and the rest of their years together in Grand Forks. Fred died, Christmas Eve, 1963. Alpha attended Aaker's Business College then worked at the University of North Dakota in the Registrar's Office until retiring in 1980. Alpha married Archie Scott in 1979. They lived in Grand Forks and spent winter months in Ocala, FL. Archie died in 1984. Alpha was a long time member of United Lutheran Church, The United Lutheran Church Women, The American Legion Auxiliary, Past PTO President, and remembered by many as a wonderful Cub Scout Leader. She was awarded the Cornerstone Award by Valley Memorial Foundations for her generosity to the organization. She was proud to wear clothing supporting UND and the Fighting Sioux. Alpha will be missed terribly by family and friends - her kindness, generosity, positive attitude and love of life was an inspiration to all that knew her. Survivors include her children, Paul (Danette Monson), Sioux Falls, SD, Cindi (Dwight) Kouba, Grand Forks, ND and Doug (Lynn) Dezotell, Shelbyville, TN; 12 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one soon to be great great grandchild; son-in-law, Paul Brewer and daughter-in-law, Eileen Dezotell. Alpha was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Rita Brewer; son, Robert "Bob" Dezotell and her siblings, Peder Tangen, Einar Tangen, Minnie Polis, Ella Loe, Arnot Tangen and Crystal Enstad.
