Alyce "Leanore" Brecke, 92, Grand Forks, ND died Sunday, October 3, 2010 in Valley Memorial Home Woodside Village, Grand Forks. Alyce Leanore Veldink was born November 14, 1917 in Devils Lake, ND the daughter of Richard and Minnie (Landsem) Veldink. She was raised and educated in Grand Forks where she graduated from Central High School. She worked in the meat department for Miller's Grocery store and later for Red Owl. Leanore was a talented artist specializing in oil paintings. She also completed many wood painting projects and focused her later years on toll painting. She was especially fond of coffee parties and gatherings. Leanore married Robert Brecke on March 31, 1939. He died December 13, 2007. Survivors include her daughter, Paula Brecke Ausen, Grand Forks; son, Doug Brecke and his special friend, Rose Foster, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Kevin (Kim) Ausen, Logan, UT, Chad (Judy) Ausen, Newbury Park, CA, Marne (Glenn) Tate, San Diego, CA, Raeph (Ruth) Brecke, Grand Forks, Marc (Aimee) Brecke, Grand Forks, ND and Jennifer (Mark) Olson, Mendota Heights, MN; a special family friend, Judy Brecke; great grandchildren, Krysta, Kandyce, Kyle, Kary, Katey, Kyara, Kadyn and Kierstyn Ausen all of Logan, UT, Gina and Eric Ausen, Newbury Park, CA, Nicholas Carrillo, San Diego, CA, Dalton and Emily Olson, Mendota Heights, MN, Brooklyn and Anthony Brecke, Grand Forks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; granddaughter, Rachel Ausen; sister Jeanne Kranzler and two brothers, Clifford Veldink and Floyd Veldink.
