Phyllis J. Nunnally, 85, Grand Forks, ND died Monday, November 22, 2010 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks. Phyllis J. Oswalt was born June 4, 1925 in Avis, PA the daughter of Wharton and Anna (Shank) Oswalt. She was raised, educated and graduated from high school in Avis. She moved to Philadelphia where she worked as a welder and riveter on naval ships during WWII. After the war, she moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she helped construct sea planes for Glenn L Martin Aviation Co. Phyllis married Rex Nunnally on November 28, 1953 in Baltimore. They moved to Grand Forks in 1956, but moved to Norfolk, VA shortly after. They returned to Grand Forks where Phyllis worked at Hugo's. She later worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. in both Drayton, ND and East Grand Forks, MN. Her husband, Rex died November 28, 1986. Phyllis retired that same year. Phyllis was a loving, caring and compassionate mother and grandmother. She enjoyed reading and being independent. Her real joy was being with and laughing with her family. She believed in the good life and will be deeply missed. Survivors include her daughter, Anna (Harrison) Hughes, Ft. Collins, CO and their children, Hunter, Ian and Abbey; daughter, April Fredrickson, Texas and her children, Karl (Sally), Shawn (Sarah), and Brent; great grandchildren, Faith, Jarrett, Samantha and Allison Fredrickson; brother, Lee (Marie) Oswalt, Essex, MD; niece, Pat (Bill) Hiers, Sharpsburg, GA. She was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Oswalt.
